Sound Healing Services

Sound is all around us, and inside of us.

What is Sound Healing?

Sound healing goes back thousands of years. The first known culture to heal with sound is the Aboriginal people of Australia. Their wind instrument called “didgeridoo” has been used as a healing tool for at least 40,000 years. The Aborigines uses it to heal broken bones, muscle tears and illness of every kind. Greek physicians used musical instruments to heal patients, tapping into the power of vibration to aid in digestion, treat mental disturbance, and promote sleep. The ancient Egyptians described musical incantations to help heal the sick. Native Americans used singing, chanting, and drums as part of the sound healing process.

Sound healing is a form of vibrational medicine and is based on the scientific principles that all matter, and most importantly, the cells in your body, vibrate to a precise frequency when healthy and a dissonant frequency when in disease.  Resonant vibration, rhythms and tones can balance brain hemispheres, stress levels, and even tension in body tissues and cells that have fallen into disease or disharmony.  The use of tuned, deep-vibration instruments such as crystal bowls during healing and meditation can balance these dissonant frequencies and bring them back into harmony.

Sound healing uses vibrations to help you reach a meditative frequency.  Sound helps create the pathway to this place of stillness that helps you to arrive at the still point of meditation.

How it Works

Since the human body is ~60% water and since sound travels five times more efficiently through water than through air, sound frequency stimulation directly into the body is a highly efficient means for total body stimulation, especially at the cellular level.  Each instrument creates a different frequency that vibrates in your body and helps guide you to the meditative and restorative state.

Because sound vibrations profoundly affect the brain, brainwave patterns will often change to match aspects of the sound vibrations, including pitches and tone sequences. The brain mirrors the sound— when the tone sequence grows coherent and sounds like a melody, parts of the brain interact more coherently.  Sounds that promote calm, like the Tibetan singing bowls, have been shown to affect delta brainwaves, which are associated with deep relaxation.  It is possible to shift our normal beta state of being alert to an alpha/creative state and even a theta/meditative or delta state where healing can occur.

The high-grade quartz crystals in every crystal sound bowl are able to amplify store, focus, transfer and most importantly transmute energy. These gemstone, metal and mineral-infused crystal singing bowls have a profound impact on our bodies, as they are crystalline in structure and shares an affinity with our human DNA. The deep impact of these high frequency instruments transform not only the bones and tissues but penetrate the sub-atomic structure of the cell.

According to Oncologist Mitchell Gaynor, M.D., crystal sound energy therapy is the future of modern medicine. It offers the same benefits to conditions of the body as some prescription drugs. Vibrations from crystal sound resonate the nervous system, transforms brain states and effectively treat stress, depression, sleep disorders, Alzheimer and cancer.

Sound healing can be done in a group, as an individual, or can even be practiced solo on your own.  For now, I'm only focusing on sound baths and individual sound therapy with Tibetan and crystal sound bowls among various other instruments.

What to Expect During a Sound Bath

Group sound baths start out with a cleansing of the space with sage and cedar.  The group relaxes sitting at first.  There is a short invocation and an intention is set for the sound bath.  Individual intentions or group intentions can be set.  The participants then lay down on their back with their heads toward the bowls.    The sound bath begins.  I will lead the group into meditation.  Guided by my intuition there may be certain ceremonial aspects included.  Reiki is always invoked and I usually finish the session with short hand-on Reiki with the participants. I always ask for permission before hand.

Individual sound baths are similar to group sound baths except it's only one participant.
